Kuwait celebrates its 59th National day on this 25th February 2020 as it is a day where Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah’s ascension to the throne in 1950 as well as he becoming Emir of the State. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah is one of the important leaders who played a major role for getting independence to the country.
History
Early days in Kuwait, it was small village where people used to generate their revenue by fishing. Later on they managed to build boats and started trading with other countries. A dynasty was formed in the year 1756 by Al-Sabah family who are ruling till date. Until 1899 the ruling was peaceful but after that they faced a problem to be ruled by Ottoman Empire or become a British Protectorate. As Ottoman Empire is a strongest nation in those times so Kuwait decided to be a part of Ottoman Empire.
Finally, on 19th June, 1961, under the leadership of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah Kuwait achieved its Independence with a healthy and friendly agreement with British. Generally, Kuwait nation celebrates its national day on 19th June, but due to extreme hot climatic conditions they shifted the date to February 25th.
Holidays
Kuwait celebrates Independence day and liberation day on 25th and 26th of February respectively. According to Kuwait government decision even 27th is also declared as holiday as it falls between public holidays and weekend by considering public interest. Finally, they concluded that holidays are from 25th Feb to 29th i.e. on Saturday. Working days will start from 1st of March.
Kuwait Celebrations
Kuwait celebrates its national day with lots of enthusiasm and public honor the day by remembering their most admired ruler Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah who is responsible for this event. As a part of celebration people decorate their houses, buildings, vehicles, streets etc. with their patriotic emblems. There are amazing fireworks all over the city, few people distribute food on the streets and conduct entertainment programs.
