Many regions in Middle East celebrate Mother’s Day on 21st March as it signifies Spring equinox which means the moment at which the earth’s equator passes through the center of the sun’s disk.
The origin of the Mother’s Day in Middle East Asia can be dated back to 1956. A journalist named Mustafa Amin introduced it after he observed the American practice in his 1943 book ‘Smiling America’. He put forward a proposal that this practice should be adopted by the Arab countries. Initially, no one paid heed to his idea but he was driven to start a campaign for the holiday when he had heard the story of a mother who sacrificed her life to raise her son only to see him become a doctor. Later Mustafa Amin managed to meet that time president Gamal Abdel Nasser and made him accept the idea. So Mother’s Day was first celebrated in Arab on 21st March 1956.
